Hospice at HCS services are covered by Medicare and many insurance plans. No one is denied hospice service due to their financial circumstances. Hospice at HCS relies on memorial contributions to make services available to all. |

Volunteers at Hospice at HCS are key members of the Hospice team and work in conjunction with hospice nurses, social workers and chaplains. Volunteers are supervised by our Volunteer Coordinator. The volunteer's role as part of the Hospice at HCS team is an important one. They give freely of their time to be with the patient and family to provide respite for caregivers, emotional support, and a listening ear, as well as run errands and provide transportation if needed. Volunteers do not provide medical care, and they are not paid for the services they provide. Hospice volunteers visit people wherever home may be - in the person's home or in a nursing home or assisted living facility.
All volunteers participate in a 27 hour training program to assist in understanding the concerns and feelings patients and families experience during the hospice journey. Volunteer training is generally held in three hour sessions ove nine weeks in the spring and fall. The training is offered free of charge. Those interested in participating in the next training may contact the volunteer coordinator at 352-2253 or 1-800-541-4145.
