The Castle Center has opened its doors once again to participants! Mary Lucas, RN and her staff welcomed participants back for the first time in 18 months on August 16!  “We are so excited to see people come through the door,” said Mary.  “We have new furniture and cleaning procedures in place to keep everyone safe,” she continued, “and I am really excited about the new staff and ideas we have for programs.”  Joining old hands Mary and Bill Brodne LPN, are new staffers Kendra Pahl, activities coordinator and Petra Hines, administrative assistant.  Maryssa Brow LNA rounds out the staffing and Barry Arlen is stepping in as kitchen aide.

The Castle Center provides a safe and engaging place for those who need just a little help or supervision due to memory care or physical needs.  The program is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:00pm.  Participants can engage in a wide variety of activities, including exercise, meals and snacks, music, crafts – the program is participant driven, according to Kendra Pahl, activities coordinator.  “We are getting to know the participants and what their interests are,” says Kendra, “and then we will offer activities centered around those interests, as well as try some new things!”  Local bus trips are even planned for this fall!

While days at the Castle Center provide a homey and friendly atmosphere for participants, just as important is the respite break for family caregivers.   Caregivers also have the peace of mind knowing that the Castle Center nursing and LNA staff is monitoring their family member’s health and well-being and can offer useful tips on navigating the caregiving challenges that they may face.  Castle Center staff are dementia trained and they have years of experience in caring for those with memory loss.

The Castle Center is a licensed adult medical day care center located at HCS at 312 Marlboro Street in Keene.

The Castle Center is now accepting new participants into the program.  Tours are available and a complimentary half day for those who would like to see if this care option meets their family’s needs.  For more information, contact Mary Lucas at 603-355-8281.
