The City Express, public transportation in Keene operated by the VNA at HCS under Section 5311 of the Rural Transit Program of the Federal Transit Administration, is discontinuing the Campus/Community Shuttle Route that would have resumed in September, 2020 and operated during the Keene State College academic year. Public comment is invited, and can be made to the VNA at HCS, P.O. Box 564, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH 03431, or by calling 603-352-2253.  A public hearing will be held upon sufficient number of requests from the public.

City Express is Keene’s “Bus for Everyone!”

With service from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays, you can get where you need to go in temperature-controlled comfort.

The City Express is a fixed route service, stopping at 30 locations in the City of Keene, including downtown, major retail centers, Cheshire Medical Center and many residential areas.  

Rides on the City Express are $1. Single and multi-ride tickets are available for purchase on the bus.

City Express Shopping Shuttle:

  • The Shopping Shuttle route will run Monday through Friday from 8:45am to 11:15am, stopping at many residential areas in the City. The drop off stops will be Hannaford in the West Street Plaza and Market Basket. The Shopping Shuttle will be open to people of all ages, with no reservations needed.   • Para Express provides complementary door-to-door transit for those with a transit disability who live within the 3/4-mile corridor of the City Express Route. To request an application for the Para Express service, please call 603-352-2253. TTY use 711. Learn more about Para Express.

City Express Additional Information:

  • Safety and Sanitation: Masks are required to ride, and physical distancing is practiced on the buses. All vehicles are sanitized regularly, and driver shields have also been installed for safety. All vehicles are handicapped accessible.

  • Additional Shopping Information: The City Express Red and Black routes also stop at Monadnock Marketplace, West Street Plaza, Kohl’s, the Monadnock Food Coop, downtown and the Riverside Plaza throughout the day for shopping.
